Somerset West is located approximately 45km to the south-east of Cape Town, it was established in 1822 and named after the then-governor, Lord Charles Somerset. Together with Gordon’s Bay and Strand they make up the Helderberg Basin. Surrounded by orchards, farmlands, vineyards, action packed Mountains, warm Blue Ocean and white sandy beaches, makes it one of the most sought after holiday destinations in the Western Cape. One of the main attractions in the area is the beautiful Helderberg Nature Reserve. The reserve is famous for its wild proteas and superb bird life, it is also home to small mammals such as Bontebok and Duiker. Then there is of course the 3 golf courses (including the renowned Erinvale), a country club, soccer, croquet, bowls, squash, tennis, cricket, hockey, a pistol shooting range and golf driving range on offer for sports lovers.
